Celebrating 100th anniversary of University of Ljubljana and 20th anniversary of SBRA in Brussels

On 15 of January 2020 at the House of the Dukes of Brabant at the Grand Place the event "100 Years of the University of Ljubljana: Celebrating Excellence in Education, Science and Research" took place. Ambassador dr. Rado Genorio was one of the keynote speakers.

The event was organized by the Slovenian Economic and Research Association (SBRA) in close cooperation with the University of Ljubljana, and also marked the 20th anniversary of SBRA. The space was provided by KBC and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Belgium, Erik Lutz.

Ambassador dr. Rado Genorio in his speech emphasized the importance of establishing the university not only for the Slovenian academic sphere, but also for building self-confidence of the Slovenians as a nation. From his many years of experience as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Technology in the 1990s, he concluded that it is important for universities to cooperate and internationalize (for example EUTOPIA project).

Other speakers included Slovenia's Permanent Representative to the EU, Ambassador Iztok Jarc, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel, Director-General for Research and Research at the EC Jean-Eric Paquet and Rector of the University of Ljubljana prof. dr. Igor Papič.

After presentation of EUTOPIA roundtable discussion moderated by dr. Drasko Veselinovic, SBRA Director took place. The guests included representatives of the University of Ljubljana, various Slovenian and foreign faculties, former European Commissioner from Slovenia dr. Janez Potočnik and accredited Slovenian journalists in Brussels.

The event, which took place in the heart of Brussels, marked these important anniversaries of the 100 years of the University of Ljubljana and 20 years of SBRA's work in Brussels. At the event excellent speakers discussed also always actual questions of funding of science, research and innovation.
